The waterfall Háifoss is situated near the volcano Hekla in the south of Iceland. The river Fossá, a tributary of Þjórsá, drops here from a height of 122 m. This is the second highest waterfall of the island.

From the historical farm Stöng, which was destroyed by a volcanic eruption of Hekla in the Middle Ages and reconstructed, it is possible to hike to the waterfall along the Fossá (5 to 6 hours both directions). Above the waterfall, there is also a parking lot, so the hiking can also be made in the other direction. (wikipedia)

Directions: The approach we took involved leaving the Ring Road at Route 26 (about 20km west of Hvolsvöllur). From the junction, we drove about 62km through Þjórsadalur to its junction with Route 32. Turning left onto Route 32, we drove about 8km to an unsealed access route (I think it’s signposted) on the right.

Keeping right at the first fork and left at the second fork, we persisted about 7km on this fairly rough and bumpy road as it climbed into the highlands (there seemed to be a stretch where the road was following power lines). Eventually, we reached a signposted turnoff to the left going the last 800m to the car park for the falls.

Alternately, we could’ve got off the Ring Road at the junction with Route 30, then drive 16km northeast to its junction with Route 32, and follow Route 32 for about 43km to the unsealed turnoff for the falls on the left.

For me this would be the perfect place to combine all the fun activities i.e. shopping, sporting and clubbing.

During the Chinese New Year period (uaually takes place in late January and early February), the Badaling Section of the wall is crowded with Chinese tourists.

Taj Mahal was constructed over a period of twenty-two years, employing twenty thousand workers. It was completed in 1648 C.E. at a cost of 32 Million Rupees. The construction documents show that its master architect was Ustad ‘Isa, the renowned Islamic architect of his time. The documents contain names of those employed and the inventory of construction materials and their origin. Expert craftsmen from Delhi, Qannauj, Lahore, and Multan were employed. In addition, many renowned Muslim craftsmen from Baghdad, Shiraz and Bukhara worked on many specialized tasks.

The Taj stands on a raised, square platform (186 x 186 feet) with its four corners truncated, forming an unequal octagon. The architectural design uses the interlocking arabesque concept, in which each element stands on its own and perfectly integrates with the main structure. It uses the principles of self-replicating geometry and a symmetry of architectural elements.

Its central dome is fifty-eight feet in diameter and rises to a height of 213 feet. It is flanked by four subsidiary domed chambers. The four graceful, slender minarets are 162.5 feet each. The entire mausoleum (inside as well as outside) is decorated with inlaid design of flowers and calligraphy using precious gems such as agate and jasper.

The mausoleum is a part of a vast complex comprising of a main gateway, an elaborate garden, a mosque (to the left), a guest house (to the right), and several other palatial buildings. The Taj is at the farthest end of this complex, with the river Jamuna behind it. The large garden contains four reflecting pools dividing it at the center. Each of these four sections is further subdivided into four sections and then each into yet another four sections. Like the Taj, the garden elements serve like Arabesque, standing on their own and also constituting the whole.

Taj Mahal (meaning Crown Palace) is a Mausoleum that houses the grave of queen Mumtaz Mahal at the lower chamber. The grave of Shah Jahan was added to it later.

The interior chamber of the Taj Mahal steps far beyond traditional decorative elements. Here, the inlay work is not pietra dura, but a lapidary of precious and semiprecious gemstones. The inner chamber is an octagon with the design allowing for entry from each face, although only the door facing the garden to the south is used.

The exterior decorations of the Taj Mahal are among the finest in Mughal architecture. As the surface area changes the decorations are refined proportionally. The decorative elements were created by applying paint, stucco, stone inlays, or carvings. In line with the Islamic prohibition against the use of anthropomorphic forms, the decorative elements can be grouped into either calligraphy, abstract forms or vegetative motifs.

Lake is stained to the color pink. The reason for this color has not yet been clarified. This color is permanent, even following the entry of water into a container. In the mid-twentieth century, scientists have studied the composition of water in the lake wanting to find out what causes the lake takes on the color pink. It is a saline lake with a width of about 600 meters from the ocean and separated by a narrow strip of land. It has a shape resembling a footprint from the edge of the forest and is separated by a belt of sand mixed with salt. Is located among forested land and eucalyptus trees of the species Melaleuca leucadendra.

The origins of information about the lake date back to the year 1802. This year, the British explorer Matthew Flinders and hydrograph visited this place in his journey to Sydney. In the early years of the nineteenth century, their settlements were in this place whalers and seal hunters.

The most likely explanation is considered that the pink color is caused by low levels of nutrients and by various bacteria and algae.

Today, the Dubai Airport is the fastest growing airport in the Middle East (and not too far behind the world) and was nominated the best airport in 2002 and 2003 by IATA. The Dubai Airport is in constant development and now has 2 terminals that cater to 100 airlines connecting over 140 destinations.

Terminal 1 is also known as Sheikh Rashid Terminal or Concourse 1. The terminal is 0.5 miles in length and connects to a check-in area by a 0.19 mile long underground tunnel containing automatic escalators.
